For startups, it might be even more crucial, as most of them are based on a single product or service such as an App, product, Software as a Service (SaaS), and others.
SEO became a word that said “Let’s increase your organic traffic” which should be saying “Let’s get your product and service as the top-notch for your audience” and goes along with “Let’s make you a brand”.
So, how do we aim to turn this saying into reality? let’s dive in.
Why Startups Need SEO for Growth?
in my last article, I mentioned more than 15 SEO-related statistics specifically for startups. One was very eye-catching and related to the FinTech sector:
“A case study by Moz found that a startup in the financial technology sector experienced a 220% increase in conversions after implementing a comprehensive SEO strategy over a six-month period“
but the numbers aren’t that low for other niches such as health, wellness, sports, travel, and so on…
The reason startups need SEO is because it turns the business into an authority using types of keywords based on the edge customers’ interest.
If a company provides the best Intermittent fasting App – then research and create content about various questions.
With the right funnel, you might convert those researches into paying customers.
For example, the keyword “intermittent fasting schedule” was searched 49,000 times on Google USA, and 88,000 worldwide.
and it’s still trending according to Google Trends:
The result of being ranked in the top 3 on such keywords will benefit the business in 3 aspects:
- Visibility – the website will get lots of traffic for a high-value keyword that is needed for the main targeted audience. You become an answer for that needs.
- Authority – When being searched on such money-keyword, you are also changing the way your audience sees you. Think how of those will traffic will check your about us and blog pages. Also, your remarketing campaign will keep you among your audience widely.
- Scale– Sales, leads and more. If the website is converting in terms of UI/UX – you’ll dramatically scale your business with such quality traffic.
These 3 combine the business into a massive provider of its product/service.
But it’s not enough, to get ranked on such a competitive keyword, you have to create high-quality valuable content based on your audience’s interests.

Find Your Clients’ Interests With A Comprehensive Keyword Research.
First and foremost, there are 3 types of keywords to research:
- transactional: Money keywords – These will target your money pages (product page, services page, landing page). In the screenshot below the keyword: best intermittent fasting app searches 6.4k in the US monthly.
- Informational: Blogging Keywords – These will be your audience questions (How, What, When, Where, Guides, Tips, Etc.) In the screenshot below the keyword: How does intermittent fasting work searches 8.9K in the US monthly.
- Commercial: Attracting Keywords – These will target specific landing pages, with psychological content that make the generated traffic to be tempted to use the free version or a free trial. Highly Recommended. In the screenshot below the keyword: free intermittent fasting app searches 6K in the US monthly.
When you find 100 keywords in each type, write a well structured high-value optimized content – you’ll see your ranking go higher and might start generating thousands of traffic. The rankings also depends on more factors such as backlinks, UI/UX, engagement rates, and more.

How to Find Your Keywords
The most recommended tool is Ahrefs, I am using it for like 5 years now.
It costs 129$ for the standard plan and gives you 500 credits to analyze websites and keywords. It’s better to choose the higher-tier plans to access more advanced features.
Other tools are:
- SemRush – An alternative to Ahrefs
- UberSuggest
- Google Keyword Planner
As said, use Ahrefs – it is the best.
I will use an AI Chatbot startup for an example.
Start with inserting in the tool keyword explorer your main keyword, choose your targeted country, and click search.
Then, you’ll move to a view that shows the information about your keyword:
You can see the monthly search volume locally (US in that case), and globally. Also, you could see the SV on each countries on the top right.
Now, the main goal is to get dominant on your niche by covering every of your audience’s questions. Hence, you’ll export “Terms Match” and to “Questions”.
After exporting, start organize them to clusters: Keyword | Main Topic.
For example: “What is ai chat bot” | AI Chatbot.
And so on to understand what is your main pillar content (What is AI chatbot in that case), and what is your money page (the AI Chatbot page).
It is also important to categorize your keywords into their “User Intent”, for an efficient content marketing strategy.
We can see some types of keywords in one look:
information: what is ai chatbot with 700 monthly searches in the US.
Transactional: AI chatbot with 87k – which will be for sure targeted for the service page.
Commercial: Free ai chatbot with 8.2k – for a free trail page, service landing page and more.

How to Write Content That’s Become a Topical Authority
So, the second part of this proven strategy, is the Topical Authority, which became a KEY ranking factor as the knowledge graph found.
In short, the knowledge graph is simple. Imagine a tree with some branches, and on them there are leafs. Well, tree is your niche, the branches are the main topics (money keyword, main service, etc.) and the leafs are articles around it.
The result is a big graph of knowledge around the niche, which makes search engines understand that you’re an authority.
But, you also have to write well and perfect.
Here are the steps for writing an high-quality content.
Pre step: Define Your Audience
First, you need to understand who you’re writing for. Define your targeted audience and create an avatar which is your edge client. Understand the users’ pain, article goal, the readers’ profession, hobbies, interest, etc.)
Research
Researching content to come up with a brief, that eventually you can send to your content writer confidently. Do this by doing as follows:
- Analyze the top 10.
- Understand their content and see what they miss.
- Create a better answering article structure (the top of your article).
- Find new angle to write about the topic.
- ADD something new to the algorithm. Teach Google something that only you provided. This can be covered in one paragraph.
- Create the structure and the added SEO content.
- Add FAQs (Use PPA to find them, also for H2s).
- Add Expert’s opinion (the CEO, company, or anyone else)
- Add infographics (easy to create with Canva).
- Use quality, non-stocks images.
A good example for content writing is this crypto website, see how they serve the the writing into the user needs.
Writing
Final stage for content creation and one before optimization and publication.
Use simple but accurate writing guidelines, here are the main guidelines I use:
- Author’s POV writing (Write like you are the author of the website). IMPORTANT
- Avoid long paragraphs.
- Avoid long sentences.
- Ensure spaces.
- Don’t overlap.
- Don’t elaborated more than is needed.
- Write like an expert in the field.
- Use bullet points for a better readability
- Use the headings (h2s, h3s, h4s) as the brief includes.
- Write in an active way.
- Add internal links as defined.
You Need A Full Covered Content Brief
Your content brief, which will be conducted when researching the topic, should contain the following:
- Writing guidelines
- Keywords [Main + others]
- Terminology
- Structure
- H1
- Intro
- Answer
- Infographic (if needed)
- H2s
- H3s
- New added value (teach the algo)
- Expert Opinion
- FAQs
- Related reading
Now, The Topical Authority starts
After having, let’s say 50 articles, it’s time to know how to connect between them.
Well, that’s simply happen by internally linked articles.
From each article, refers to the most related topics NATURALLY. Use the content as is and do not anchor them in a new generated sentences.
What Should You Become An Authority
You’ll probably know the answer, but here is why in the online market:
- Visibility – once you are an authority, search engine will give you a priority in rankings. The more relevant traffic the more scale you can get.
- Brand – you’ll become a brand among your audience, as they’ll see you in a vary of searches on search engines.
- SEO – onceOnce you establish your brand, your SEO efforts can significantly benefit from the increased recognition and authority.
So, this actually proven, and here are our great campaign to a great company based in Knoxville
